GERARD BASSET &…THE UKSA

The United Kingdom Sommelier Academy (UKSA) has been created by sommeliers, for sommeliers. Many of our Board members are proteges of the late, great Gerard Basset, who is undoubtedly remembered as the most accoladed and most loved and respected sommelier of all time. Gerard was instrumental in the nurturing, mentoring and inspiration to so many somms- he helped to train, guide and educate generations of sommeliers.

Our philosophy at the UKSA is simple and remains true to the long-held belief that Gerard, a great sommelier had, to love people.

The UKSA offers opportunities for networking, events, and participation in both national and international competitions and examinations.

We are the official national association, affiliated to ASI, (International Sommelier Association) and are an independent, non-profit organisation.

We are proud to support, mentor and join together with UK somms and those working within the UK wine and spirit industry wishing to be members of our vibrant academy.

To learn more about our mentor, Gerard Basset, who remains the inspiration for what we do, here is a film made by 67 Pall Mall about his life and his achievements- and learn just why he’s called ‘The World’s Favourite Sommelier click here.
